Eid Al Adha Holidays in United Arab Emirates

Eid al-Adha is near, and like every Muslim government, the UAE has also announced the Eid al-Adha holidays. It is a much-awaited Islamic festive occasion where people prepare in advance for sacrifice, celebrations, and gatherings. The public announced Eid al Adha holidays, giving people time to celebrate Eid with all their might and fulfill religious duties. 

The Occasion of Eid Al Adha

For those who don’t know, this Eid is a religious occasion. Muslims sacrifice animals to honour the sacrifice made by the Prophet Ibrahim. This is about faith, trust and belief. One must surrender to Allah’s will and shall be rewarded. 

Eid al-Adha coincides with the Hajj pilgrimage in Makkah and is celebrated every 10th Zil Hajj of the Muslim calendar. Every year, all Muslim governments announce public holidays to celebrate the festivities of this Joyous occasion. So does the UAE.  

Eid Al Adha Holidays 2025 in Dubai

The UAE government has publicly announced the Eid holidays from the 5th to 8th June. Thursday 5th June is Arafat Day, and 6th June is Eid. Both the government and public sector will resume work from the 9th of June. 

In the UAE, the Federal authority has declared that all ministries and federal entities will observe the Eid Al Adha holiday from June 5 to June 8, 2025. So all the government employees will get plenty of time to engage in religious practices and enjoy the occasion.

Similarly, in the private sector, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has announced a paid holiday from June 5 to June 8, 2025. KHDA authority has announced that educational institutions will also remain closed from June 5th to June 8th, 2025. This includes all private schools, universities, and nurseries. Normal classes will resume from 9th June 2025. 

Religious Observances

  • 5th June 2025 will be Arafat Day. This date is the climax of the Hajj pilgrimage. Muslims keep fast on this day. So that’s another level of joy. 
  • In the UAE, Eid prayers will be held on the morning of 6th June 2025. Dubai mosques and open prayer grounds host special congregational prayers. After these prayers, sermons are given to emphasize the values of sacrifice, charity, and community. 

Cultural Traditions of Eid al-Adha in UAE

Well, this Eid is a mix of cultural traditions and religious duties. People who can afford the sacrifice, perform the ritual and spend half of the day in making and distributing meat. Many UAE residents donate to charitable organizations or directly assist underprivileged individuals.

In the evening, families invite each other. They cook and share meals, exchange gifts, and celebrate the occasion together. The Government also hosts events like fireworks displays, cultural performances, and special exhibitions. This enhances the festive atmosphere. 

How Does it Impact Travel and Tourism?

These are holidays, and most official work is closed. Emirates sees a clear rise in domestic and international travel. People also benefit from travel deals and get themselves luxury staycations at discounted prices. People also go out and visit cultural landmarks, museums, and heritage villages. Many malls and shopping centres host Eid sales. These attract shoppers seeking discounts on various products. 

According to UAE labour laws, all employees must be given full pay during Eid holidays. If anyone is working, they are entitled to compensatory time off or additional pay. 

Also, if there is a public holiday on the same day as an employee’s regular day off, it will be considered a holiday. There will be no additional day off. 

To avoid any misunderstanding, communicate clearly with their staff. They must be clear about policies, holiday schedules and any operational requirements during the Eid period.
