Dubai has further stepped up in terms of development as Etihad Rails is set to launch its first all-electric train. This train will connect Dubai with Abu Dhabi, reducing the commute time to 30 minutes only. Etihad will further expand this train route to all of UAE shortly.
Initially, this electric train will cross 6 stations. These are
- Reem island,
- Yas island,
- Al Maktoum International Airport,
- Al Jaddaf,
- Zayed International Airport and
- Saadiyat.
The speed of this electric train is remarkably fast. At 350 km/h, it will reduce current travel time between emirates from 1 hour and 23 minutes to 30 minutes only. This project will not only save time but will facilitate budget costs and Dubai’s eco-friendly vision of going green.
The Etihad all-electric train launch is part of a Dubai national Rail project. It aims to build transportation infrastructure that will efficiently connect all of the UAE via smart routes.
As a part of this project, not only electric but regular passenger trains will also be launched. These trains will move to and forth towards the border with Oman, passing through Mezeira’a, along the Liwa Desert and its famous oasis. Stations will be built in Sharjah and Fujairah, extending to the wider GCC, once the GCC Railway is operational.
Given Dubai’s excellent management, this project will have a 50-year economic impact and will add 145 billion dirhams to the UAE’s GDP.
The regular passenger train will move at 200 km/h which may not be as fast as an all-electric electric train but still fast enough to upgrade the commute system. One regular train will accommodate up to 400 passengers.
While Etihad freight trains are already operational, no launch date has been announced for the all-electric trains. Tenders are in progress and only after approval, the infrastructure will be built.
After announcing air taxis, this project is another step forward. Not only will it bring Dubai to the horizon of futuristic development, this project will also impact Dubai’s commute. As the city is growing rapidly, so does the need for fast, efficient and effective modes of transportation. The electric train will make travelling easy and accessible for the public.
Given the circumstances, this project is also a huge contribution to Dubai’s sustainability goal. With carbon emissions, electric trains will be a great addition to Dubai’s transportation system. It will also reduce traffic load on roads, and make accessibility easy for people living in both Emirates.
Benefits of the All-Electric Train Project
- This project will make travelling via both Emirates, fast and convenient.
- It will not only save time but also reduce the load from road traffic.
- This train will also be a great alternative to private vehicles.
- All the key areas will be connected through the network which will boost tourism and the economy.
- It will reduce carbon footprint and pollution.
- More people will be able to move across the emirates, distributing the manpower and talent all across the UAE.
